As a woman trying to choose a design for a permanent tattoo, you may be finding it difficult to determine exactly what it is you’d like your tattoo to represent or say about you. For many, this is the easiest part of the process but for others, it may be confusing and frustrating.
By taking the time to read through the meanings of many designs and symbols, you just may be able to start to put together a design in your mind.
Remember, your tattoo is your own personal statement and it can be anything you choose. While you may decide that one symbol / meaning will suffice, it’s quite possible that as you research tattoo meanings and symbology you’ll end up with many that appeal to you.
In many cases, combining several different symbols is the easiest way to make your own personal statement. Let your imagination run wild, choose your favorites and then visit with your tattoo artist to put together the final design.
Even flash pieces can easily be made into your own personal style with very few changes if you know exactly what it is you want. Please keep in mind that for many images, there is a most commonly accepted meaning and / or message.
In some cases, however, a particular symbol could mean something different to every person who sees it. If you have no inclination to share or explain your tattoo to others, the personal message is yours alone.
If however, you do plan on sharing as your tattoo is inked in a place visible to all and hope your tattoo will be a conversation starter – you’ll need to give a little more thought to the perceptions of others when choosing your design.
Quite often the design phase of the tattoo process can be the most exciting. Take your time and research thoroughly. Do any additional research that you may feel is necessary and don’t hesitate to make a few rough drafts of your thoughts and ideas.
The most important thing to remember, however, is that ultimately, the final design you choose will be with you for the rest of your life. Take the necessary time to make sure that what you choose is perfect for you and you won’t get tired of it anytime soon.
Although permanent tattoos can be removed, the process is expensive, painful and could result in scarring. By making sure that the design you’ve chosen will grow old with you gracefully, you’ll be able to eliminate the possibility of trying to figure out how to get rid of something that you once wanted so badly. Additionally, make sure you’re completely convinced that you want a tattoo. Choose a good, safe artist and don’t take any shortcuts to save money.
Follow this advice and your experience should be one that you will always cherish rather than regret.
